The Origins of Tattoos
Summary: Tattoos were first developed by ancient aboriginal people, who used them in their social, religious and political cultures.
The birth of the tattoo is no longer a mystery. It has been proved that the first tattoo users were aborigines from all around the world but, why did they come up with such an original idea? There have been many theories about the reasons they had for having their bodies tattooed, closely connected to social, religious and political issues. It is my belief that these first users had mainly religious purposes for having tattoos, the two most important being to worship gods and to differentiate hierarchies within the clergy.
The first most important reason why aborigines covered their bodies with tattoos was widely related to worshipping gods. By having tattoos made, they felt closer to their so much praised gods and protected from bad fortune as well.
