A transformed text is an alteration or modification of the context yet the key scenes, issues and plot are retained. The film `O' directed by Tim Blake Nelson is a transformed text from Shakespeare's play, `Othello.' In this film the main plot, scenes and issues are retained however the context has been changed from 16th Century Italy into a modern 21st century context. For this modification of the text to occur it was necessary to make a few changes, including the setting and medium, yet the essence of the original is still retained. By using filmic techniques such as camera angles, voice-overs and symbolism the relationship between `O' and `Othello' is maintained and thus the fundamental issues are conveyed to the responder. Similarities between character traits in both texts work symbiotically with the modernisation of the setting and as a result the film still addresses key issues...
