The battle of Vimy Ridge was one of the greatest battles in Canadian history. It was fought in the month of April, in the year of 1917. During the period of World War I, this battle was the first time in the nation's history that all four Canadian divisions fought together on the same battlefield. The Canadian army in the battle included soldiers from all of the nine provinces in Canada (excluding Newfoundland). The purpose of the battle of Vimy Ridge was to accomplish the impossible breakthrough of the German lines.
In this battle, it was the Canadians' task to take on a part of the ridge. They also had to take on two important hills, where the Germans had built strong defenses. In order for the Canadians to have greater flexibility and firepower, the soldiers were given special roles such as rifle men, grenade throwers, and machine gunners...
