Techno/literacy
A calculator is a technological advance, which has made mathematics simpler for people. A simple tool, the calculator has cut down the time it takes for one to complete a math problem. There are many different types of calculators, from basic mathematical functions to advanced graphing and formula solving. This handheld computer has made mathematics more efficient for one to learn, making more people literate in the subject. The use of the calculator is taught in schools, where techno/literacy is becoming mainstream.
Personal computers are now a mainstream of information in today's society. One way of retrieving information is using an encyclopedia program. These programs contain a plethora of information from aardvarks to zoologists. A person can find information on these subjects in minutes, whereas looking for the information in a printed encyclopedia can take hours of research. This example of techno/literacy has obliterated the time of research.
The Internet is a tool for people to use to find information on anything. One can access anything from sports scores to new and upcoming musical artists. People can purchase items online, communicate instantly with one another, and receive the latest weather updates. The World Wide Web can access topics from any country on the Earth. This example of techno/literacy has also become mainstream in schools everywhere, for research projects, designing musical arrangements, and accessing information.
Techno/literacy has made life much simpler. Before calculators, math problems would take minutes, if not hours, to complete. Before personal computers, researching information by published volumes of encyclopedias would take hours, if not days. Before the Internet, most people would wait a day or more for news. Today these examples of techno/literacy have made life more efficient.
