A common theme throughout the writings of the Harlem Renaissance I the will of the black writers of the time to find the strength to persevere and make their dreams come true, even though they are being oppressed. The writers of this time were successful, even in the face of stereotypes and discrimination. The hardships they had to face in order to become successful stand out in many of their pieces.
Many writers of time were not born in America. They had to immigrate here. One such writer was Claude McKay. McKay was born in Jamaica began writing poetry. When he earned enough money, through poetry awards, he was able to emigrate from Jamaica to America to start a new life for himself, and hopefully make something of his writing abilites.
