People's positive and negative experiences being part of the human condition is explored in the novella "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, the film "Shine" directed by Scott Hicks, the two poems "An Absolutely Ordinary Rainbow" by Les Murray, and "All the World's a Stage" by William Shakespeare. The positive and negative experiences are also portrayed in the song "Why does it always rain on me?" by Travis.
