Obstacles to Africa's Development
Summary: Africa has persistently been unable to overcome its many economic, political and geographical obstacles to achieve a better life for its people. Economic problems have historically been caused by the nations' dependence on imports, reliance on foreign aid, poor government programs, neglect of agricultural development, and too much industrialization.
Starting in the 1800s, Africa faced many obstacles. Some of these troubling issues still exist today, hurting Africa's government, people, and economic income. Its geography contributes to slowing down the farming and trade industry. The economy of Africa declines its income of goods and money. As well as Africa's population and poverty resulting in food shortages, and many special needs.
The geography of Africa is very mysterious, with many rainfall problems, climate issues, and tropical diseases. The irregular rainfall issue concerns the deserts, mainly Sahara and Sahel, and the rainforests. The rainforests, hence the name, receive too much rain. However, the deserts do not get enough. Because of this, there are frequent droughts. In the 1970's and 1980's, the Sahel, a semi-desert located near the Sahara, faced a huge drought, resulting in no food or water, and starving, dying people.
