The horrors of Greek Letter Societies

"Every year since 1970, a young man or women has died during an activity related to sororities or fraternities" (Nuwer 1), and those are only the ones reported. What compels young, intelligent, college students to accept and undergo degrading and dangerous rituals, change their personal identity, and experience hell and inordinate commitments to belong to a social group seems rather questionable; yet, more and more people are joining a greek letter society every year. Furthermore, Greek Systems have only one positive aspect-a social life. Other than meeting new people, these corporation- like groups cause nothing but addictions, disorders, and deaths; problems that could last a lifetime. Due to physical and emotional problems directly associated with sororities and fraternities, Greek life should be abolished from the college atmosphere.
