With Heads Bowed and Fists Raised
Summary: It was a fine win, Tommie Smith had taken first and John Carlos his teammate had taken third. After their race they made their way to the podium knowing this could change their lives forever. They made plans to protest American racism on the podium by the silence of their fists in the air and their heads bowed.
It was a fine win, Tommie Smith had taken first and John Carlos his teammate had taken third. After their race they made their way to the podium knowing this could change their lives forever. They made plans to protest American racism on the podium by the silence of their fists in the air and their heads bowed.
This came off as a very interesting topic for us to do our report on. We were looking for ideas through books and decided we wanted to do one on a runner, and our teacher gave us the idea of the 1968 Olympics. We chose a runner because we both run and we are interested in this and the history of important people that were involved in this sport.
