Egyptian and Islamic Medicine: Their Impact on Modern Society
Summary: The knowledge that the Egyptians and Muslims had was far superior to any previous civilization, and many civilizations to come. One of their greatest achievements was in the field of medicine because they began to replace myth with medical fact, and this laid the foundations for modern medical practice.
In out relentless pursuit for scientific and medical knowledge, we are on the fast-track to a whole new era of discoveries, but we can't forget where it all started. Both the Egyptians and the Muslims had very advanced knowledge for the early time period, which has greatly influenced the medical world of today. Religion and beliefs played a huge role in influencing both the Egyptians and the Muslims. The knowledge of both civilizations will be explored through looking at what they actually knew about the human body, and some of the more common diseases. Also, what they knew about cures, treatments and medications that were commonly prescribed. In addition, there were many significant individuals, and many famous medical texts. Finally, the important connection between medicine with religious beliefs will be examined.
