Although A Clockwork Orange promotes violence, sex and other adult themes is somewhat true, I think boys at the age of fifteen and sixteen are ready to be exposed to the issues they may face in the real world. Boys at this age are quickly introduced to these issues and I think A Clockwork Orange eases them into adulthood. I find the novel to be essential in the development of teenagers as the symbolism; ideas, themes and values explored are both realistic and insightful in the world they grow up in today.

I will outline the story and its origins, and then discuss the symbolism, themes and values explored in the text, relating and justifying these ideas throughout. I will then finish with the key arguments for the reinstatement back into the curricular.
