An Analysis of The Life Of Pi

The Life of Pi was written by Yann Martel, and it is about a sixteen-year-old boy
stuck on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger. The main character, Piscine Molitor Patel, also
known as "Pi", was born in Pondicherry, India. As a child, he was introduced to three
religions: Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity. Him and his family left India June 1st
1977 onboard the ship Tsimtsum heading to Canada. They planned to settle in
Winnipeg, and start a better life. Four days after entering the Pacific, Tsimtsum sank.
From then on, during his 227 days of isolation on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger, he
changed significantly.
He was forced to stop following certain dictates of his religions. As a
commandment of Islam and Hinduism, an animal should be killed swiftly and
