Three Styles of Parenting
Summary: There are three established styles of paretning: authoritarian, laissez-faire, and authoritative. Authoritarian parents seek much control over their children's lives; laissez-faire is highly permissive; authoritative is the preferred style with its blend of nurturing and support with parental direction.
For many people child rearing can be a wonderful and exciting experience but this exposure can also become a hard task to fulfill. Social evolution, cultures, and advanced social research on parenting have had a profound impact on how parents decide to raise their children. Numerous studies have been conducted that research the effects of different parenting styles and their connection with child development. Psychologist Diana Baumrind has distinguished three styles of parenting: authoritarian, laissez-faire, and authoritative.
Authoritarian parenting refers to those parents that are high in controlling their children's lives such as the rigorous enforcement of rules and discipline.
