Summary: The life of Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, the first woman to rule an African nation (Liberia).
Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf is the first woman to rule an African country. Sirleaf's victory is a great personal accomplishment for her. She has taught other women to persevere and taught them they can do anything a man can do. She helped Nigeria by exiling Charles Taylor (the brutal dictator who ruled Liberia poorly). A civil war is happening in Liberia that is injuring youth, splitting families, destroying properties, and loosing many lives. Sirleaf as a leader is doing a wonderful job to make everything better for family and children.
As she was 10, Sirleaf was interested in politics. Sirleaf went to college in Harvard and worked in the World Bank and Citibank. She studied economics at the College of West Africa. She served as Minister of Finance for a year. When Sirleaf chose to be against Doe, the former president of Liberia, she went to jail. She was sentenced for...
