During the book A Vineyard Killing, written by Philip R. Craig, the main character in the book is J.W. Jackson. J.W. is a retired Boston cop, living on the Martha's Vineyard Island and who has gone through a lot in his life. While in Vietnam he was wounded, he was shot at the same time as being a cop, and he was also shot while living on the island by someone. Now, after being retired, he is still going through some bad times. J.W.'s problems consist of no steady job and he has a family of four including him. The two jobs he does have are fishing, which only provides good catches in the summer and spring, and caretaking for high-end houses.
