Hidden: Themes, Plot Summary, Main Characters and More
Paul Jackunas, author of the 2004 novel Hidden, spent much of his childhood and young adulthood in land of southern Indiana. The quiet and lush setting of his childhood Indiana contributed to it being used as the main setting of Jaskunas' novel Hidden. He said that, "I have spent time in this part of the state, as a child and young adult, and always have been moved by the loveliness and ominous isolation of its towns and homes."
Jaskunas also used his own life experiences to develop the character of Maggie. Jaskunas suffered from strokes and used his aspect of his life to contribute to Maggie's own health problems of strokes and seizures. From knowing first hand how it feels to have these medical conditions he was able to bring a realistic and convincing sense to the novel.
