"Et tu, Brute?"
Summary: Many works of literature that contain a single line that is very important to the story. In the case of William Shakespeare's play "The Tragedy of Julius Caesar," it is Caesar's final line as he is murdered, "Et tu, Brute?" The line portrays an important theme of the play, which is betrayal.
Throughout many of the lines in a play, there can be one line of great importance. In the play, The Tragedy Julius Caesar, there is a line of that kind. The line is very important to the play because that just one line can explain much of the play. That one line has a relationship to the play and has reasons for its effectiveness.
The famous Latin words "Et tu, Brute? Then fall Caesar"(3.1.77) were the last words said by Caesar. The Latin words mean And you, Brutus? The line is said by Caesar to Brutus, which goes to show how shocked Caesar was to see his own friend do this. Caesar trusted Brutus as a friend but apparently Brutus wasn't too much of a friend.
