Funerary jewelry, also sometime's known as `mourning jewelry', is a keep-sake of a loved one who has passed away. During the Victorian era, an era well known for it's opulence, this method of mourning became a popular trend. The jewelry was typically made with the hair of the deceased, where as today it is more common to use one's ashes. Rings, broaches, necklaces, earrings, and any other form of creative decoration could be manufactured and personalized to the individuals wishes. The decline of funerary jewelary in this period was mainly due to the confusion and controversy that would occur once the owner of the jewelry passed away. Because it was built with the remains of the deceased, any financial value of the surrounding materials became null and void.
