Canada's Role in the World Trade Organization
Summary: Much of Canada's economic growth is influenced by its role and trade partnerships established through its membership in the World Trade Organization.
The World Trade Organization, founded in 1994, provides countries around the world the control they need to efficiently develop their economies through trade. It resolves important global issues while carrying a message of peace. International trade has been a big factor in shaping Canada's domestic economy. As Pravakar Sahoo of the Institute of Economic Growth once stated, "One must remember that good trade policy begins at home. The surest way to liberalize and progress is to reform one's domestic economy. Whether one follows the regional or multilateral track, reforming the domestic economy is imperative in order to maximize the gains from trade liberalization."
