The Civil War began in 1861. One of the main causes of the Civil War was the issue of slavery, which lead to the session of the South from the Union and the formation of the Confederacy (Savage, 8). During the war, many men were sent off to fight in the battles while the women were left back at their homes to care for the children and fulfill the men's role in their absence. The outcome of the Civil War, which ended in 1865, was a victorious win for the union. Although the men played a very important role, the women of the North played many significant roles.
