Depleted Uranium; the Silver Bullet of Modern Warfare
War has been an active component of mankind's existence. Modern warfare today is constantly advancing as nations dedicate their resources to research and testing, always looking for a way to come out ahead of the competition. The most controversial issue in the advancement of modern warfare today is the usage of depleted uranium. DU is a byproduct of enriched uranium (Farley, 2003) and is considered depleted because of the absence of the uranium isotope U-235. The remaining portion, U-238, is 40% less radioactive and a byproduct of U-235's use as fuel for nuclear reactors or as a component of bomb production (Parsons, 2001). Depleted Uranium has several uses.
