Alexander . . . the Great?
Summary: From watching Michael Wood's video "Walking in the Footsteps of Alexander the Great," one can conclude that Alexander the Great was indeed a great man. Despite his controversial behavior, megalomania, mercilessness, and stoicism, Alexander achieved a great deal that evokes a sense of admiration on the part of most people.
One simply can't perceive all the heroic, if not tyrannical, acts of this man and his conquests without being indignant to his mass genocide, or reverent to his military genius. However as many approaches as can be made to his life long escapades, there is, possibly, an objective view point in which we take into account as many of his ventures with as least judgment as possible. Michael Woods' stance in "Walking in the Footsteps of Alexander the Great" takes a holistic, open approach to the unfathomable journey and devastations emplaced by Alexander of Macedonia. These next few pages also will attempt to grasp the significant parts and positions on his life, yet not his life alone. In my quasi-harsh, narrow-minded perception of him and his way of life, I would name Alexander an erotically and passionately driven, totalitarian, pompous, megalomaniac with implacable emotion, and tremendous fortune.
