Summary: A brief analysis of the nature of father-daughter relationships in the Academy Award winning short film, "Father and Daughter."
Short animated film, Father and Daughter, looks at the kind of `unconscious compulsion' which quietly, yet totally, affects our lives. It depicts the metaphysical relationship between a father and his daughter. The daughter's unending devotion conveys a lifetime of yearning and grief as she returns over and over to the spot on the banks of the water where they last stood together. This physically represents the times we have often travelled back to such a meaningful time and place, even if only in one's mind.
We are left to imagine the passing of time as both the wide Dutch landscapes and the girl live through their seasons. We witness her becoming a young woman, having a family and in time growing old, yet within her there is always a deep longing for her father.
