The Roman Catholic Church has constantly held the teaching about the importance and sacredness of all human life. The understanding and meaning of life can be found by interpreting significant life experiences, such as birth, suffering, loss and death. As Catholics search for meaning they draw upon their life experiences to understand their faith and they draw upon their faith to understand life experiences. One of the Roman Catholics most idolized icons for displaying this belief is Cardinal Joseph Bernadin. The Cardinal constantly held a "consistent ethic of life" where he was always pro-life. Cardinal Bernadin encountered many significant life experiences including becoming a priest, bishop and cardinal, being accused of sexual abuse, being diagnosed with cancer and dying a public death.
