The Not So Roaring Twenties
Summary: The 1920s, better known as the "Roaring Twenties," was a period of economic prosperity for many groups of Americans, but not all. Some unfortunate groups who did not do well during this period of prosperity included farmers, immigrants, and African Americans.
As the saying goes, for every good there is a bad. Whenever there is something good, you can be sure there is something bad. The same can be said about the 1920s. This decade nicknamed the roaring twenties was a period of economic prosperity for many groups of Americans, but not all. Though the United States was in a small recession prior to World War I, the war pulled us out, and left us with a booming economy as our factories rushed to fill European orders. On Wall Street there was a bull market as stock prices were going through the roof. The automobile was invented and allowed for faster transportation, and the settling of rural areas.
