Summary: A review of the book The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart, the first of three books that describe Merlin's metamorphoses into a legend.
The Crystal Cave tells Merlin's (the main characters) story from childhood to young manhood. This book is the first book of three, which explains Merlin's metamorphoses into a legend. As a young boy, Merlin was disliked and feared for he's odd powers. After the death of friend, Merlin leaves his home and fled to Brittany to meet with Ambrosius (Merlin's father). Ambrosius planned on disposing of Vortigern (king while Merlin was a young boy) to become King of Britain. Uther was Ambrosius' brother and was he's rival. With Merlin's Sight and training as a druid and an engineer, he played a very important part in Ambrosius' plan. On a trip to Wales, Merlin is brought to the attention of Voritgern. Merlin helps he's father through out the book. He uses he's powers to help he's father spy. A war does take place during this book, where Ambrosius is...
