Priestley is trying to give you an idea about how people are treating one another, how some people seem to have a higher status than others, and how they use it for their advantage.

Back in 1912 there was a very strict division between wealthy and poor people. Wherever you went, those two classes would be treated very differently.

Priestley doesn't just tell us about the way people treat one another, he shows us. He uses drama to demonstrate clearly to the audience what was happening.

He is obviously very annoyed with how the wealthy people live and treat other people. Not in one moment he supports the rich people's thoughts which are to think they are `more'...
