How Does William Present Blanche in a Streetcar Named Desire
Summary: A look into the character of Blanche in the book 'A streetcar Named Desire' written by Tenessee Williams.
When glancing through the first few scenes, we gain a large insight into what type of person Blanche Dubois is, deep inside. Blanche soon turns out to have been a school teacher in Mississippi, she turns up at her sister, Stella's apartment in New Orleans, despite having fallen out of contact with her, Blanche seems to have made it quiet obvious that she is staying there for a long period of time, due to the `large trunk' that she has with her. Shortly, after her arrival, Blanche reveals she has lost the family's home `Belle Reve', which descended from their French Aristocratic family.
Firstly, when we simply look into the meaning of `Blanche Dubois', it means `White woods', like an orchard in spring, this `white' could possibly symbolise Blanche as being a pure and clean character. This name was obviously specially chosen for this effect on the audience...
