Slavery in America
Summary: This essay discusses how slavery though horrible, was instrumental in the economic development of America and the south.
Slavery, even tough it was a terrible thing, has been instrumental for the United States as it stands today. Slavery was an important part of the southern colonies economy and was encourage by many economical, geographical, and social factors between 1607 and 1775.
An example of an economical factor that encouraged slavery occurred in 1698. During this time the Royal African Company, lost its crown granted monopoly on carrying slaves into the colonies. So, Americans hurried to cash in on their slave trade. In result, the slaves supply rose greatly. But, the bulk of the slaves were shipped in after 1700. So much so that by 1750, blacks accounted for almost half of the population in Virginia. Also, the south needed extra help on the plantation, the slaves provided that. Thus, it lighten the load put on the plantation owners, and in essence made blacks welcomed in America because they helped out. Also...
