Equality and Difference in My Life and That of Aboriginal Australians
Evaluate the importance of identity, socioeconomic status and human rights in that role.
`Equality and Difference' in Australia refers to the fact that, although we are a hybrid society with a huge range of personal and cultural differences, we are all united by basic commonalities and want to be treated equally and fairly.
Unfortunately, Equality is a myth in our society as there is greater emphasis on social differentiation (such as race, religion, culture, class status) than our commonalities such as desire to access socially valued resources and upholding basic human rights.
Through my own experiences and through those of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander population we can see how identity formation, Socio-economic and human rights impact on the nature of Equality and difference in Australian society.
