The Urinary System and Its Relationship to the Kidney Transplant
The human body takes the essential nutrients from the food that is consumed and uses them to maintain all bodily functions including energy and self-repair. After the body has taken the food that it needs, waste products are left behind in the bowel and in the blood. To prevent their accumulation and hazardous poisoning, it is important for the body to excrete that waste. The urinary system is a crucial part of the body because its job is to constantly keep the chemicals and water in balance by excreting the waste products of metabolism and removing a type of waste called urea from the blood. Its functional characteristics are quite similar to a plumbing system, with special pipes that allow water and salts to flow through them. The urinary system consists of two kidneys, two ureters, the urinary bladder, two sphincter muscles, and the urethra.
