Symbolism and Imagery
In the world of literature, certain objects and colors symbolize certain things. Victorian authors use symbolism and imagery to depict certain aspects of the books, and the characters. One Victorian author that used this method was Charlotte Bronte in her book Jane Eyre. Bronte shows Symbolism and Imagery in Jane Eyre through Jane's passion.
Bronte symbolizes Jane's passion through her illegitimate marriage to Rochester as opposed to her would be marriage with St. John. It shows that Jane would rather be with Rochester the older less attractive man, than the young, handsome St. John. This is because there is no heat or passion between them. This means Jane is a very passionate person, and needs to let out her passion in love.
