How Does Shakespeare Develop the Theme of Love and Hatred Up to Act 2scene 2 in Romeo and Juliet
From the very beginning of the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the theme of hatred is already displayed in the very first scenes. There is the public fight on the streets of Verona in Act 1 Scene 1, which introduces the responder to the family conflict between the Capulets and the Montagues. The theme of hatred is also developed through the character of Tybalt, who is a fiery nephew of Lady Capulet. Love is introduced as Romeo talks of his unrequited love for Rosaline and soon after in his meeting with Juliet. The sonnets in the play also develop the theme of love, as sonnets are poems that are all about love and nothing else.
