The American Colonists' Path to a True Identity
Summary: A summary of the American Revolution and how the colonists developed their own sense of identity as Americans.
As yet another century comes to a close, the United States is far different from the country newly become independent in 1776. A small group of people living along the edge of a continental wilderness has expanded into a great world power. Early Americans were struggling to find their identity among the rest of the world. Many colonists came together and realized the importance in becoming a whole, independent nation. A chain of clashes and disputes only encouraged them to break free from Britain's rule. These disputes made colonists rebel, in order to express their unity and identity as American people. They attempt ed to do all they could to decline rule, including protests and other acts of refusal.
