The Civil War
Bruce Catton gives his readers a very descriptive mental image about how life was back in the mid-1800's in his book, The Civil War. With more than two-hundred photographs and drawings and Catton's creative use of vocabulary he shows us the war from both the North and the South point of view.
Catton tells us that slavery was the main issue that caused the war, but it wasn't the only
issue. The differences between the two societies caused a political split. The North was more of an industrial society and the ten of thousands of European immigrants were very useful in the fast growing developing industries.
