Animal Farm Theme Analysis
Summary: George Orwell's novel Animal displays the theme that power can lead to corruption. After the pigs assume power following the rebellion at Mr. Jones' farm, they begin taking advantage of the other animals. As the novel progresses, the more power the pigs gain, the more appalling their actions become.
Prior to the rebellion, Mr. Jones is the owner of Animal Farm. All of the animals are treated poorly. Similarly, after the rebellion the pigs start gaining power and taking advantage of the other animals just like Mr. Jones did. These events in George Orwell's book Animal Farm suggest the theme that power can lead to corruption.
One scene that illustrates this theme happens during the harvest not long after the rebellion. All the animals must work during the harvest except the pigs who only order the other animals to do the work. Some pigs even acted like humans by giving commands to the horses. They said woah and gee up but made it seem like they were equals by adding "comrade" to the back of those commands. The pigs also move into the harness room and take all of the milk and apples.
