Supreme Court Decisions
Supreme Court decisions have greatly affected American society by explaining the Constitution. Many decisions dealt with American's view on society at that specific time, and some of those decisions contradict previous decisions made by the Supreme Court's predecessors. A majority of Supreme Court decisions create statutes that are always followed.
The state of Tennessee had failed to redistribute its state legislatures for 60 years, even though the population spurted in the urban cities in Tennessee. The rural cities of Tennessee had more power than the urban cities because of this, and a voter by the name of Charles Baker sued the state. Baker argued that his vote was abated because Tennessee failed to redistribute its votes which violated the Equal Protection clause of the 14th amendment.
