The play "Our Day Out" was written by Willy Russell in 1977.The play was written from his own experiences from when he worked at a comprehensive school in Liverpool. The play is about a trip to Conway that really happened and where the characters really existed. Willy Russell wrote this play to let the audience know of his past experiences and his perspective on the events taking place in Liverpool at the time the play was written. In the early 1970's Liverpool was known for its unemployment and fall into poverty. There was a high rise in unemployment due to the cities docks, shipbuilding and heavy manufacturing all being prone to strikes. This would have left families only using there money for basic needs and those with jobs would have spent most of their time working.
