The Wave is based on the real experience of a high school class in Palo Alto, California in April 1969. It shows us how the powerful forces of group and peer pressure can persuade people to join movements like the Wave and give up their individual rights and intimidate those who do not conform. A history teacher, Ben Ross came up with a classroom experiment to explain to his students how and why the Germans were persuaded in the 1930's and 40's by Adolf Hitler to abet in the systematic beyond Ross's expectation. After only a few weeks, a community called 'The Wave' had been established. Individuals had given up their rights, individuality and freedom for mindless obedience and discipline.
