Julius Lester's to be a slave for the most part has a bitter tone. I say this because when the former slaves were talking about the olden days, they still seem to have bitter feelings about everything that went on. It is understandable to be angry about the hardships that were endured, but to still have a grudge on all people of a particular race is unreasonable. The formers slaves should defiantly not forget what happened, but be ale to move on with their lives. From reading the commentaries from the some of the former slaves, it is clear to me that there are hard feelings towards most if not all white individuals. A whole race of people should not have to suffer because of things that their ancestors have done. It saddens me, because some of the former slaves can no longer put their trust or faith...
