My initial reaction to "House Guest" written by Elizabeth Bishop was not surprising nor interesting, but very boring and typical. The poem was very typical and alike any story or poem I have read recently. The poem did not represent anything meaningful to me because there was nothing in the poem that symbolized life or what life really is. The poem was just a typical story about a seamstress who does not know what to do with her life and is only happy with money, food, and clothes. The seamstress did not deal with any real life issues such as mortgage, surviving by herself, or even feeding herself.
