Why were war bonds so popular during World War II? Designed to instill patriotism, confidence, and a positive outlook war advertisements were used extensively during World War II to assist the military and persuade all Americans to help with the war effort. Using stark imagery to elicit powerful emotion, the advertisements appealed to peoples conscience, fears, and ideals of freedom. Throughout this paper an advertisement for war bonds will be described, the culture behind it, and what it really signified.
The advertisement came from the National Biscuit Company, Nabisco, during the second war loan drive. In 1943 it was published in a article by The New York Times.
