Summary: Nike currently holds over 40 percent of the athletic footwear market in the United States. Now that Nike founder and CEO Phil Knight is retiring and Bill Perez is replacing Knight, what does Nike hope to accomplish? Perez brings an expert knowledge of promoting subbrands from his days at S.C. Johnson; however, he needs to expand Nike's international markets while making as little change as possible to the Nike work environment.

After building Nike from scratch and running it for over 40 years Phil Knight has finally decided that it is time to pass on the paton. Phil Knight has decided that it is time to retire and is sending in Bill Perez, former first stringer for S. C. Johnson to step up to the plate. So far Nike has a lot of good things going for them, but there is always room for improvement and subbing players this late in the game could be potentially dangerous for Nike's future.

Right now Nike holds over 40% of the athletic footwear market in the U.S. They have bought up other companies such as Converse, Starter, and some other leading brands to add sub-brands to their already widely popular Nike.
