Themes and Literary Devices in "Hide and Seek" and "The Early Purges"
Summary: An analysis of two poems: "Hide and Seek" by Vernan Scannell and "The Early Purges" by Seamus Heaney. Both poems have childhood as their theme. The literary devices and structure of each poem is analyzed.
I am going to compare and contrast the two poems `Hide and Seek' by Vernan Scannell and `the Early Purges' by Seamus Heaney. Through this essay I intend to analyse how each handles the theme of childhood and other techniques used by the poets.
First of all I will start by writing about the way both poets have set out their poems. In `Hide and Seek' Scannell has decided to set his poem into one large stanza but Heaney has set his poem into 7 tercepts. It is possible that both poets have set out there poems according to their poems rhyme scheme. In Scannell's poem the rhyme scheme is ABCDD but is not continue at the bottom of the stanza but in Heaney's poem the rhyme scheme is ABA and it is continuous through all the stanzas.
It may be the case that both poets are using ambiguous...
