Production of goods on a large scale or a small scale by the use of the skill is called industry. Industries may be small scale, cottage, medium, or large scale. An industry requires raw materials, skilled manpower, laborers, capital, facility of transportation communication, marketing system and machinery. Industries make the country self reliant. The country no longer needs to import necessary materials from other countries. If industries are established and run in even remote parts of the country, only then rural development is possible. Development of industry also develops agriculture since industry manufactures agriculture tools.

In a developing country like Nepal, development of industries is very important for the development of the nation. Various kinds of industries like large, medium, cottage and small industries should be established and developed to solve the ever increasing problem of unemployment and to alleviate poverty.
