Defining Moments in Canadian History
Summary: Three defining moments in the twentieth century played a significant role in building Canada's integrity as a free, independent nation. The attack on Vimy Ridge by Canadian troops during World War I solidified Canada's position as a major contributor to the Allied victory. World War II enabled Canada to show its bravery and generosity, from allowing training of British air personnel on Canadian soil to initiating the Raid on Dieppe. And through the 1989 North American Free Trade Agreement, Canada showed its ability to work with diverse cultures and excel in international markets.
Very few people are aware of the distinguishing events that happened in the 20th century which can truly be described as the defining moments of Canadian history. Being a patriot at heart, I would proudly like to pen my views on the subject, thereby taking the opportunity of paying homage to my great country and its people. To me, Canada, its government and its people have proved to the world as to how a nation's values of bravery, generosity, and tolerance of other cultures and religions can lead to peace and prosperity. Chronologically stating, the attack on Vimy Ridge by Canadian troops in 1917, the involvements of Canada in WWII, and its joining the North American Free Trade Agreement in 1989 have played a significant role in giving Canada its identity in the world as a free and independent nation.
