Sons and Lovers by D. H. Lawrence is a modern remake of Oedipus the King by Sophocles. Of course the story is not the same, it could never have been the same because of the two different time periods, but many of its aspects are very similar. Such issues as the role of the mother, the setting, and the ending in Sons and Lover resemble those of Oedipus the King.
One of the main areas of comparison between Oedipus the King and Sons and Lovers is the presence of the Oedipus Complex and the role the mother plays in it. In both of the stories the mother acts as the constructor of this love between herself and the son.
