Things Fall Apart by Achebe is the story of the rise and downfall of a man named Okonkwo and his village. Okonkwo is a man of great strength and prominence in his village of Umofia. He gained most of his fame by winning a wrestling match against a man thought to be unbeatable, Amaline the cat. Okonkwo is a very hard working man and thought that everyone should be the same way. Okonkwo was a man of the village who earned everything on his own and got no help from his father, Unoka, who was a lazy man in great debt, and cared about nothing except for playing the flute.
