Requirements for Becoming a Lawyer

In order to become a lawyer you are required to have a four year degree, three years of law school, and you must pass the written bar examination. During your first year you will have courses in constitutional law, contract, property law, torts, civil procedure, and legal writing. Most law schools require students to do internships in legal- aid clinics, clerkships in law firms, government agencies, and corporate legal departments.
It is recommended that prospective lawyers develop proficiency in writing and speaking, reading, researching, analyzing, and thinking logically- kills needed to succeed as a law student and as an attorney. All law school students must take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).
