Due to its loose structure, non-linear narrative and the variety of themes explored, "In the Skin of a Lion" by Michael Ondaatje can be read and valued in a myriad of ways depending on one's context. Through the vivid and confronting descriptions of the harsh lives of the marginalized such as the migrants and the workers, one may read the novel from a Post-colonial view. However, readers of the Post-modern context may see the novel as reflecting the ideas of Post-modernism due to its use of recognizable techniques such as meta-fiction and discontinuity and fragmentation. Whilst one's reading is affected by one's context, one's reading may be further enhanced by understanding of other readings.
